The movie "Rich in Love" is based on a 1987 novel written by Josephine Humphreys.

When they made the movie in 1993, the Penguin publishing house printed a movie tie-in edition that has Kathryn Erbe and Kyle MacLachlan on the cover.

Oddly enough, this beautiful-looking scene with Lucille and Billy didn't make it into the movie.

Here is the summary of the novel from the back cover:

"At the age of seventeen, Lucille Odom finds herself in the middle of an unexpected domestic crisis. Her mother has left the family home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, to 'start a second life.' Her dad is obsessively pursuing his wife, while her sister's turned up out of the blue with a Yankee husband in tow. And as she helps guide her family through its seasons of sdiscontent and establishes a new equilibrium, Lucille discovers herself a woman rich in wisdom, rich in humor, and rich in love."

Trivia!
Alfred Uhry, who wrote the screenplay for "Rich in Love" and thus adapted the novel for the big screen, not only won an Academy Award for his script for "Driving Miss Daisy" (based on another Josephine Humphreys novel) but also wrote the screenplay for "Mystic Pizza".
