The movie "Stir of Echoes" (1999) is based on a book by Richard Matheson. The book was written at the end of the 1950s. After the movie was made, they printed tie-ins. The German edition has three pictures from the movie.

Not a spoiler, just kind of curious: in the book Tom's wife is called Anne - in the movie she (played by Kathryn Erbe) is called Maggie.

Richard Matheson puts a quote at the beginning of the book:

Sometimes within the brain's old ghostly house,
I hear, far off, at some forgotten door,
A music and an eerie faint carouse
And stir of echoes down the creaking floor.

"Cambers of Imagery" by Archibald MacLeish

The version from the German copy:
Manchmal höre ich im Geist
- diesem alten Spukschloss -
von fern,
von einer längst vergessnen Tür,
eine Musik, ein schaurig-verhaltenes Gelage
und ein leises Echo, das über knarzenden
Dielen weht.

One bit from the director's commentary on the DVD (by David Koepp):

"That tattoo on [Kevin Bacon's] arm says M and T, Maggie, her character's name and T, his name. We got the idea for that because Kathryn Erbe in reality has a tattoo on her shoulder that says T and M, for her husband Terry and her daughter Maeve and we thought, hey, let's give Kevin one, too. They'll be matching."

(You can see her tattoo in the movie and also in Law & Order CI when she wears sleeveless tank tops - so it's not only Kathryn Erbe who has the tattoo, but Eames has it, too. :-)
